We are now going to examine how bias manifests in others, either as individuals or as groups.
Instructions:I would like you to find real-world examples of bias in our world. Here is what I mean by that:
Find an example of a known public figure (politician, celebrity, etc.) OR an organization (a business, a religious organization, a social group, etc.) that was documented, accused, or found guilty of making a poor decision, mistake, error in judgement or action.
See if you can identify if there was a BIAS that caused that poor decision, mistake, error in judgement or action.
Once you identify that bias, see if you can see which cognitive bias it was.
Length: Needs to be at least one full, double-spaced page long.
What you should include: Provide a few paragraphs where you explain
A) WHO let the bias influence them (person or group),
B) explain how wide-spread the bias is in that group OR who else falls victims to the bias,
C) (if applicable) how historically prevalent that bias has been in the United States.
D) At least ONE source. Your source in this section can either help you define the bias you identify in the “real world” example OR your source can be used to cite the example you found itself.
E) Spend a good long paragraph explaining how to overcome bias. You CAN bring in a source here that explains it, but don’t HAVE to.
F) Create a conclusion
