Our histories shape how we view and experience the present; and as (potential) teachers, we
carry that lens into the classroom. This paper is a space for you to critically analyze your
educational experiences using the frameworks of the course. In 5-6 pages, you will deconstruct
how factors such as race, class, gender, dis/ability and others served to advantage or
disadvantage you within your K-12 schooling and academic trajectory. Where did you grow up,
what were the demographics of your school and community, what opportunities were you
afforded, what struggles did you overcome? Were you in English Learners classes, were you
tracked, was college normalized and expected? How do these experiences reflect the
institutional structures of education and society? In answering these questions, you will develop
a more complex understanding of how education operates within a diverse society. The paper
should be written in first person, but you must use APA format and cite 5-6 readings from the
course.
